Dead Batteries

I went to use the remote control yesterday and it was unresponsive. NOT GOOD. Watching TV is all about being lazy so walking to change the channel is completely out of the question. My initial reaction was to go all caveman and smack it. No response. Then I had momentary amnesia and pointed it back at the TV hoping it would magically start working again on its own. Still nothing.

The batteries were dead.

No power.

Paul’s prayer for the church in Ephesians 3 goes something like this “That you would be FILLED with the fullness of life and the power that comes from God.” Filled is the key word. In fact, that word implies a constant action. It’s not a one time filling, it’s a constant filling. Keep the batteries charged!

Because we have a constant need. I know this about myself. When I feel empty, I feel different. When I’m empty I’m:

  • Cranky
  • Selfish
  • Road Rage Guy
  • Have ZERO tolerance
  • But enough about me…
What does YOUR list look like?
More importantly what are you doing to stay filled? Acts 13:52 “And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.” Take some time today and test your batteries. If they’re dead, chances are you’ve got some areas in your life that are out of control. Make a commitment to spend the time with God that you need to stay filled. There’s no perfect formula for this. Do what works best for you.
  • Get your groove on with some worship music
  • Study God’s Word
  • Meditate on a single verse
  • Take a prayer walk
  • Write scripture in a notebook using your own words (One of my favorites)
  • Pray, pray, pray!
The key is to start and don’t stop. If it matters, you’ll make time for it. This matters.
