For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
A couple quick questions. Take your time.
1. Are you rattled when things don’t go as you expected?
2. Do you worry about things that you can’t control?
3. Have you recently lost sleep because of fear or anxiety?
4. Do you by default imagine the worst case scenario?
The other night, my daughter briefly caught some video footage of the devastating events that recently occurred in Japan while I watched the news. The images she saw gave her nightmares. Her young, innocent mind had a hard time processing the reality of what she had just seen and she couldn’t help but imagine herself right in the middle of the destruction. That night it took more than just praying for God to replace the fear in her mind with His peace, it also required the comfort and protection of mommy and daddy’s bed.
The Bible says that the enemy (The Devil) exists now for the sole purpose of bringing death and destruction. If he can’t physically destroy you, he wants to spiritually intimidate you. He wants you afraid. Fear has a way of paralyzing you. It keeps you from moving forward, from progressing with God, from fulfilling God’s plan. Satan’s tool of fear is meant to deter you from God’s best. The enemy wants to fill us with so much fear that it prevents us from doing the good work of God.
Don’t allow it.
Isaiah 26:3 says “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.” Put your mind on the promises of Faith. Remember this:
- Faith brings peace
- Faith draws you closer to God
- Faith changes things for the good
What areas do you dwell on your fear more than you do God’s promise?
